Implants

Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth. An implant (or “screw”) is placed in the jaw bone and heals within a few months. An abutment is then connected to the implant and, finally, a crown is placed on top. This process can take anywhere from 3-12 months but remains the most predictable and successful way to replace teeth.

Implants tend to be more expensive than other forms of tooth replacement, but have major advantages that justify the cost.
1. They are fixed in place – you do not need to remove them like you would for a denture.
2. They typically last 10-30 years (or more) with proper care and maintenance.
3. They cannot get cavities like a normal tooth.
4. They are more esthetic than a crown or bridge.
5. They prevent the jaw bone from resorbing, unlike bridges and dentures.
6. They can provide stability for wobbly dentures.

Have Questions?

Dental implants are placed using profound local anesthesia, so you should not feel pain during the procedure. Minor discomfort may occur after the numbness wears off and over the next few days. We will provide you with post-treatment instructions and an effective medication regimen to minimize your post-operative sensitivity and get you back to normal in no-time!
At Lake City Dental, we use titanium implants as they are the most predictable and durable implant available.
Dental implants are the most reliable and predictable form of tooth replacement for most people. Several studies show that about 97% of implants survived at least 10 years and 94% survived at least 15 years. Cigarette smoking and uncontrolled diabetes are the most common factors related to implant failure.
Maintain good oral hygiene by brushing and flossing regularly (water flossers are also great for cleaning the area around implants). We recommend visiting us at 6-month intervals to clean and check your implants for long-term success.
Coverage varies depending on your plan, but many policies cover a portion of the cost. Check with your insurance provider for details on coverage and any potential costs.
