Approximately 30% of people grind their teeth at night. Over the years, this can lead to significant tooth wear, discoloration, and problems with the TMJ (or “jaw joints”). A custom-made night guard provides a buffer between your teeth that acts like the suspensions of a car. An initial investment in a night guard can save you several thousand dollars in “full mouth rehabilitation” costs later in your life.

What to Expect During Your Night Guard Appointment

Night guards are completed in two visits.

1. Visit #1: Digital scans are taken of your upper teeth, lower teeth, and bite.
2. Visit #2: Night guard delivery

This depends on your grinding habits. Typically, we can expect a night guard to last about 5 years.

While these are a decent option for patients on a budget, the over-the-counter guards do not offer the same quality and effectiveness as a dentist-made night guard. Dentist-made guards are slimmer, more durable, and more protective than an over-the-counter night guard.

Coverage varies depending on your plan, but many policies cover a portion of the cost. Check with your insurance provider for details on coverage and any potential costs.
