Same-Day Crowns

Same-Day Crowns

Same-Day Crowns

Most dental offices will require two visits for a single crown procedure (“prepare” the tooth in the first visit; cement it in the second). At Lake City Dental, we have the option to make the crowns in the office and cement them on the same day with our advanced equipment and technology. These crowns are just as strong and effective as lab-made, but require only half the time.

What to Expect During Your Same-Day Crown Appointment

Same-Day Crowns are completed in one visit.

1. Numbing: An anesthetic is administered to numb the area around your teeth.
2. Decay Removal and Build-Up: Dr. Lewis removes any decay (if present) and builds up the tooth (as needed) with filling material – this is done in cases where we need more structure to bond to your crown.
3. Tooth Preparation: Dr. Lewis shapes your tooth to fit the future crown.
4. Digital Scan: High-resolution scans are taken.
5. Coffee + Explore: While our high-tech milling machine creates your crown, you will have some time to grab a coffee and explore our beautiful neighborhood next to Lake Pepin!
6. Cementation: Your crown is cemented into place.
7. Adjustment: Adjustments are made to achieve a comfortable bite.

FAQs

Have Questions?

This depends on many factors such as oral hygiene, location of the crown, and your eating/grinding habits. Generally, they are expected to last 10-15 years with proper care – this is the same as lab-made crowns! Regular dental check-ups and good oral hygiene practices can help extend the life of your crowns.
Getting a crown is generally painless due to numbing of the area with local anesthesia. You might feel mild sensitivity afterward, but this usually goes away in a couple of days.
Costs can vary depending on materials and case complexity. We will work with you and your insurance provider to determine this cost. One thing is for sure – a same-day crown will not cost you more than a traditional two-visit crown!
Coverage varies depending on your plan, but many policies cover a portion of the cost. The insurance coverage will be the same whether you choose a two-visit or same-day crown. Check with your insurance provider for details on coverage and any potential costs.
